FSL has been serving the needs of our community through the outstanding leadership and effective action of volunteers for 40 years. Since our founding, FSL has supported numerous community service projects, provided funding to area nonprofit organization, given scholarships to Hancock County graduates, and contributed thousands of volunteer hours to our community.
FSL was established by a group of forward thinking women who wanted to give back to their community they loved so much. Over its 40-year history, FSL has addressed the needs ranging from arts and cultural education to homelessness. Our members have been instrumental leaders of groups such as CASA, Findlay Area Safe Kids, and Safety Town. We have consistently provided volunteer hours to City Mission meal service, Hope House Christmas party, Coats for Christmas, Mazza Funday Sunday, and Salvation Soup Kitchen. This does not include the thousands in funding we have provided throughout Hancock County over the years. The focus of FSL has continually been improving the lives within our community, specifically children and women.
Recently, we have joined with Marathon Performing Arts Center to provide opportunity for families in need to attend cultural performances at the center because we believe all children should have the opportunity to be exposed to cultural events coming to Findlay and our hope is to provide this for children who may not have the financial means to attend otherwise. We have also provided a play space within Findlay Children’s Museum for children to learn and enjoy.
Every year we have a MADD project. During recent MADD events, we helped design and created the family room at City Mission and the monitors’ room at Hope House. In 2016, year we are excited to be working with Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build in October.
We also have partnered with Community Foundation to set up an endowment for Findlay Service League. If you are interested in donating to FSL, please send checks to the Community foundation with look us up at “Findlay Service League Fund’ in the memo line.
FSL is a group of ordinary women with extraordinary hearts giving back to our community. Our members take on active roles because they know it’s not the number of things we do, but the quality of our impact that matters. We look forward to a bright future with energetic women addressing community needs and connecting with others wishing to do likewise. Our service year starts in August, but new members can join until October 1. If you are interested in becoming a Findlay Service League member, please send contact us.
We are thrilled to see where the 2016-2017 will take our League. Our theme this year is “Refocus and Rebuild” which is our reminder to look toward the future and think of impactful ways to positively improve the community in which we live. I look forward to the great things this year will bring. Findlay Service League wants to extend a gracious welcome to new members.
