Charities & Service Ballot – September 2013

BALLOT #1 – PASSED!

Service:

City Mission is requesting volunteers to help serve dinner to family residents, single male and female residents, as well as drop-in people from the community.  The number of people served will depend on how many residents are staying at the City Mission and how many drop-ins come in for the meal.  City Mission is specifically looking to fill its schedule on the 5th weeks of the month for the remainder of 2013 and 2014.  FSL members would assist the staff cook, plate & serve dinners, refill beverages, assist attendees, and clean up during & after the meals are served.  Volunteer time would be 3:30pm-6:00pm.  The request is for 3-4 volunteers per date.

C&S recommends that FSL support this request by providing volunteers for the 5th week of the month including a Chair for this project.

Rationale:

1.       FSL would be helping the City Mission to serve the needs of the homeless population in our city/county.

2.      FSL would be serving a program that we have not supported in the past.

3.      It would provide needed service time to our members each month.

Co-Chairs for this Service Project:  Sarah Palmer AND Alanna Langlois

BALLOT #2 – PASSED!

Funding:

Findlay Enrichment Program is requesting funding from FSL in the amount of $500.  Our contribution will be used to assist in bringing COSI on Wheels from Columbus to the Findlay City intermediate schools as well as two primary school buildings.  COSI on Wheels will spend a day in each of the buildings providing science experiences.  The program will benefit almost 2,000 students and will help students with science skills as well as keep them excited about science.  Students will gain information and experience how energy is made and used.

C&S recommends that FSL support this request and award $500 to the Findlay Enrichment Program to assist in the funding of this COSI on Wheels experience.

Rationale:

1.       FSL would be supporting an organization we have supported in the past.

2.      FSL would be supporting a worthy program benefiting a large number of students in our community.

The Arts Partnership of Greater Hancock County is requesting $250 to assist in the funding of four Toledo Symphony Orchestra ensembles to travel to area schools for 40-minute performance/demonstration sessions.  It is anticipated that approximately 1,000 students will attend one of these sessions.  The sessions are designed to introduce young people to the instruments in the ensemble and how they are played.  The intent of the program is to inspire students to enter into or continue in a music program offered through the schools.
